Porteous’ Studio

This project involved the design and production of all furniture for Porteous’ Studio, a contemporary holiday studio created from a disused garage in the heart of Edinburgh. The commission was undertaken for Izat Arundell, who developed the space with a clear vision for continuity and restraint.

All furniture within the studio was produced from a single oak tree. Working from one source allowed the character of the material to remain consistent throughout, with variations in grain, tone, and figure appearing across different pieces. Rather than disguising this, the furniture was designed to allow those differences to be read as part of a shared origin, creating a quiet connection between each element in the space.

The result is an interior where the furniture feels related rather than matched, unified by material rather than repetition.

Kitchen cabinetry was produced in collaboration with 56 North Kitchens, with upholstery by Be Seated.
