Commissioned by Edinburgh architects Lee Boyd as part of the refurbishment of the boardroom at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art’s Modern 2, this collection was designed specifically for one of the gallery’s principal meeting spaces.

The commission included a five-metre board table, two fireside tables and a console table, all made in solid oak.

At this scale, the board table had to be designed as a series of components, allowing it to be assembled within the room while still reading as one continuous piece. The curved quadrants of the tabletop were cut entirely from a single oak tree, making it possible to carry the grain, tone and character of the timber across the surface and arrange the boards as part of the composition.
