Edinburgh Law School: Boardroom Furniture
Commissioned for the University of Edinburgh’s refurbished Law School boardroom, this project centred on a deceptively simple challenge: how to create one substantial board table that could adapt easily to the many different ways the room is used.
The solution was developed as two solid oak tables, each measuring 1.8 x 0.9 metres and seating six people. Bespoke running gear allows the tabletops to slide and unfold, transforming each into a 1.8 x 1.8 metre table for up to twelve.
For larger meetings, the two tables can be brought together and connected using rails concealed within their frames. Bespoke stainless steel fixings create a tool free push fit connection, allowing the tables to become a single 3.6 x 1.8 metre board table with seating for up to sixteen people.
The flexibility is built into the furniture, allowing the room to move between smaller meetings, teaching, events and full boardroom use without compromising the clarity of the design.
The commission also included twenty-four Alma stacking chairs to support the full range of configurations, twelve in solid oak and twelve with leather seat liners.
