Archerfield Drinks Cabinet
This drinks cabinet was designed and made for a private property on the Archerfield Estate in East Lothian. The brief called for a piece to house a drinks collection, together with glassware and cutlery.
The cabinet was commissioned alongside a bespoke set of Oxbow armchairs and a dining table. Scottish rippled oak was selected for the cabinet, with Scottish brown oak used for the table and chairs. Both trees were sourced from the same estate in the Scottish Borders and had grown side by side, giving the wider furniture set a strong sense of material provenance.
The oak used for the doors and drawer fronts was re-sawn into 3mm veneers and cross-laminated to improve stability, while also allowing the panels to be book matched.
These components were fumed with ammonia to create a contrast with the main cabinet elements.
The upper section incorporates a drop-down bar, designed to be self-supporting and avoid the need for stays. Bespoke brass pivot hinges allow the open bar to retain an uninterrupted appearance in use. The lower drawers are detailed with blind dovetails, with the drawer bases lined in green leather to relate to the accompanying chairs.
