Achnacloich
This project involved the design and production of an integrated sofa and dining table for the family home of architects Neil and Laura Stephen of Skye-based practice Dualchas. Located at Achnacloich on the south of the Isle of Skye, the house called for furniture that would respond closely to the clean lines, material palette, and open-plan character of the interior.
The sofa was developed in coordination with local terrazzo specialist Joel Franklyn of Skye Stone Studio, ensuring the transition between the terrazzo hearth and oak frame was carefully resolved. The frame is constructed from prime grade German oak, with down-filled upholstery in Svensson new wool fabric.
A centrepiece dining table was designed for the same space, developed to sit comfortably within the interior without becoming overbearing. Measuring 2.6 metres long by 1 metre wide, the table is also made from prime grade German oak, allowing the two pieces to relate through material, proportion, and placement within the room.
